Chemical Bitterness: Chapter 0

(This story is entirely fictional)

Location: Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai, Russia
Time: August 4, 2015. 08:30 A.M. (Vladivostok Time)

"Time to get up, cousin!" said Ekaterina to her cousin, Dmitry.
"You want to play videogames with me, right?", he replied.
"Yes! Wait... do you want to sleep?", said Ekaterina
"Maybe a few more minutes, I'll tell you when I'm ready", he replied.
"Ok"

Ekaterina was a 15 years old girl, born on January 1, 2000. She feels that she's special because she was born right at the beginning of the 21st century. Dmitry was her cousin, the son of Ekaterina's mom's sister. He often sleeps in her house, particularly in the weekends and in the summer. He was born on October 27, 2000. At that time, he was 14, but he didn't feel much younger than Ekaterina.

Meanwhile, she ate her breakfast: she drank milk and ate some cookies.
After having breakfast, she was browsing the Internet and she was reading "news" about the Indian "Mars Orbiter Mission", which has been orbiting Mars since the previous year.
After almost one hour later, at 09:27 A.M. Dmitry asked her if she wanted to play videogames.

"Of course, which game do you want to play with?", she asked.
"Uhm... let's just play Call Of Duty: Black Ops II", he replied.
"I see... you want to play the Tranzit level against the Zombies with me?", she asked.
"That's right!", he replied.

Ekaterina turned on the PS3, put the Black Ops II disc inside of it, and they started to play. The first level was easy, as you can kill zombies just using the knife ONCE on them. Ekaterina was very good at playing that game, and they reached level 10. As time went by, they got stronger weapons, to kill the zombies easily. Dmitry was having fun, as usual. They kept playing for a lot of time. Ekaterina had to revive him a couple of times, because the zombies were very fast at one point and they killed him quickly. They got at level 24, they killed the Avogadro once, but now the zombies were very difficult to defeat. Dmitry's character died, but Ekaterina's couldn't revive him, because there were just too many zombies, and if she did, she would have died, too. The zombies were too fast and they had too much HP, she hasn't been able to survive.

GAME OVER.

They played for more than 3 hours straight, so they were very tired.

"Do you want to go outside?", Ekaterina asked.
"No, I don't. It's too hot outside", Dmitry replied.
"Ok... what are we going to do, then?", Ekaterina asked.
"Let's eat something", he replied.

They went to the living room and started eating chips.

"Life is a little boring, the only thing we can do is play videogames, nothing else comes in my mind!", she complained.
"We'll find a thing to do, I'll promise!", he reassured.
"Really? Nice!", she said.
"We just have to think about what other teenagers do", he said.
"I wanted to go outside, but you said it was too hot!", she said.
"It is! But it's not just the heat, it's the humidity...", he replied.
"Heat doesn't last forever in Vladivostok, when summer's over, will you start going outside? Or will you complain that it's too cold?", she asked, smiling.
"No, I won't. You can always put your clothes on, but you just can't strip your skin off in the heat", he said.
Ekaterina laughed, and asked: "Well then, will you start going outside in October? Or will it still be too hot?"
Dmitry replied: "October is nice! I'll go outside!"
"Ok! I'm looking forward to October, then! But now, in August, what can we do?", she asked.
"Well, we can still go out in the morning, when it's cool", he replied.
"Let's do it tomorrow!", she said.
"Ok, we'll go outside tomorrow morning!", he reassured.
"But I'm bored NOW! What can we do?", she asked.
"I'm still thinking, it's not easy", he replied.

Ekaterina had an idea.

"What if we hug?", she asked.
"What?", Dmitry wasn't surpised: they hug often, but they usually don't hug each other randomly like that.
"I thought it would be nice if we spent time hugging together!", she said, smiling happily.
"How much time do you want to spend hugging?", he said.
"I'll stop hugging you when you will not want to be hugged anymore", she said.
"Ok then", Dmitry said, smiling even more than Ekaterina did.

They started hugging, and they were happy, but after like 3 minutes, they were starting to get bored.
"It feels good, but it's not funny... we're just sitting here hugging, not even moving, this is boring...", Dmitry said.
Ekaterina agreed, it wasn't funny or exciting, it just felt good. But then the boredom overcame.

"We have to accept our fate, we'll be bored to death", Dmitry said.
"Maybe you are right, shall we listen to some music?", she asked.
"I don't know, maybe later, after 3 hours of videogames, my mind is tilted", he said.
"Tilted?", Ekaterina said, laughing.
"Yeah, tilted! I like this word!", he said, smiling.

Ekaterina was thinking what other teenagers did in the summer. They went outside together in squares and parks, they went eating some food outside, and so on. They usually didn't stay inside their homes.

"Lunch is ready!", said Anna (Ekaterina's mom).

There were fried potatoes, salad, apples and ramen for lunch. Ekaterina loved fried potatoes, and she ate a lot of them. She also ate a lot of salad with the red wine vinegar. She then ate an apple, saying "An apple a day, keeps the doctor away", and she laughed. She didn't eat much ramen, but what she ate was enough for her. Dmitry ate mostly the ramen and the fried potatoes. He ate a little of salad but he didn't eat any apple.

"This was a very good lunch!", said Ekaterina
"The food was tasty!", said Dmitry.
"Thank you!", said Anna, smiling.
"But it's true!", said Ekaterina. Then she hugged her mom.
"You're so lovely, Ekaterina", she said to her daughter.
They both smiled.

Ekaterina kept hugging her for about 30 seconds, then let go and said "What can we and Dmitry do to have fun? I can't think of anything, except going outside. What can we do inside?"

Anna replied: "You've got a lot of videogames, how can you even be bored?", she replied, smiling.
Ekaterina said: "Yes, but we just can't play videogames all day long, there should be another thing we can do!"
Anna replied: "Of course! You can listen to music, play chess, watch TV, jump on the bed, write a story together, play dares, drawing, play the musical keyboard, and so on..."
Ekaterina thought: "Then... we're going to listen to Helloween and Stratovarius, while we jump on the bed, asking each other "Would you..." and then saying something funny, and then maybe we'll draw something and we'll play the keyboard, I'll tell Dmitry" and then said "Thank you, mom! You gave me an idea!"

"Let's go to my room!", said Ekaterina.
Dmitry agreed and went to Ekaterina's room.
After they went to her room and closed the door, she said to Dmitry:
"I have an idea! Now we won't be bored!".
Dmitry didn't know what was Ekaterina's idea.
She went to Youtube and played a Stratovarius' song.

"Do you want to listen to music, then? Ok, it's not that boring...", admitted Dmitry.

"It's not the only thing we'll do, let's jump in the bed, while we're listening to this song!", said Ekaterina.

"Nice idea!", said Dmitry.

They started jumping in their beds, listening to Power Metal music. They were having a lot of fun, and they weren't bored like they were before.

"Would you lie down in a bed full of heated thorns?", asked Ekaterina, almost laughing.
"Of course I wouldn't, why are you asking me?", said Dmitry, a little suprised.
"Now it's your turn! Ask me if I'd do something", said Ekaterina.
"Oh ok... it's a game! Uhm... would you go outside in a swimsuit when it's minus 20 degrees Celsius (-4 °F)?", asked Dmitry, laughing.
"No way! It's too cold!", said Ekaterina.

"But... we're saying things that of course no one would do! Let's say "Would you..... if they paid you ...... Rubles?"", admitted Dmitry.

"You're right", admitted Ekaterina, then she said: "Would you spend one year in prison if they paid you 1000 Rubles (*if you don't understand how much is a Ruble, check on Google)?", asked Ekaterina.
"No, I wouldn't. 1000 Rubles aren't enough, now it's my turn: would you let someone remove violently your nose hair for 10000 Rubles?", asked Dmitry.
"Of course! I can buy a lot of things with 10000 Rubles! I don't mind some pain!", admitted Ekaterina.
"Would you take off your spacesuit on the Moon for 20 seconds, knowing that then they'll take you inside again and you won't die, even if you'll lose consciousness, for 5000 Rubles?", asked Ekaterina.
"5000 Rubles aren't bad, I'd do it!", replied Dmitry.
"Would you swim in a beach full of sharks for 30000 Rubles?", asked Dmitry.
"No, probably I'd die, and 30000 Rubles aren't that much for such a dangerous activity", replied Ekaterina.
"Would you eat 10 ice creams straight for 500 Rubles?", asked Ekaterina
"500 Rubles? It's not that much, and after 10 ice creams I'd have a tummy ache, but I'd do it. 500 Rubles are better than nothing", he said, smiling.
"Would you be a mainstream Pop singer for 20000 Rubles?", asked Dmitry.
"No way! 20000 Rubles aren't enough for the rest of my life! And I hate mainstream pop music!", she replied.

"Now I have a funny one", thought Ekaterina.

"Would you smell my farts after I ate a lot of beans for 100 Rubles?", asked Ekaterina, laughing.
"Why not? 100 Rubles are almost nothing, but I'll take them! It's better than nothing!", said Dmitry.

Ekaterina laughed, and said: "I don't believe you, you wouldn't do such a thing!"
"If you gave me 100 Rubles for it, then sure I'd do it!", replied Dmitry, proudly.
"Then you don't mind if we do it later?", asked Ekaterina, smiling.

Dmitry didn't think she was serious, so he said: "I accept your challenge! Are there any beans in your house?"
"Of course there are! I'll bake them and I'll eat a lot of them, and then I'll fart! If you can endure the smell, I'll give you 100 Rubles, as promised", Ekaterina said, laughing

"This is getting very weird, but I'll do it for the 100 Rubles you're going to give me!", said Dmitry. He wasn't sure if she was going to actually do it or not.

"But remember, I'll give you 100 Rubles only if you will endure the smell! If you won't, I won't give you anything!", said Ekaterina, with a mischievous smile.

"Let's do it, then! But what your mom will think, when she'll see you baking beans?", asked Dmitry.

"Don't worry, she's upstairs, she won't see us, let's go baking some beans for the challenge, then. Let's see how honest your reply was!", said Ekaterina, smiling.
