Happiness

Unknown place in Sunshine Land March 21, 2023. Tuesday.

Ţëêkm woke up, as everyday. She smiled and got up, ready for another day. Her best friend Mnüp invited her at a restaurant today. She dressed up, took a shower and was finally ready. Everything looked nice and the sky was bright sunny. Ţëêkm was very happy, as she was going to spend a day with her best friend Mnüp. When Ţëêkm is with her friends, she feels really good, because being with a friend brightens up one's day and make even the darkest days look a bit better.

Ţëêkm wore very colorful clothes, just as everyone in the Sunshine Land, and her smile was cheerful and contagious. She knew everything was going to be awesome and everyone was going to enjoy these moments, and will enjoy their lives with happiness and without worrying about the future. Mnüp was a really nice girl, just like everyone in the Sunshine Land, and everyone cared about each other's feelings, because no one wanted to feel sad, ever. Ţëêkm went outside to meet Mnüp and finally they met each other, hugging each other tight and smiling.

"Hello Mnüp, nice to see you! I'm so happy!", said Ţëêkm, smiling, dancing and giggling. Mnüp smiled back and they were going to a restaurant. While walking through the colorful town everything looked nice and bright, everyone was smiling and the atmosphere was really relaxing. Living in the Sunshine Land really is good! Everyone here is kind and gentle, ready to help you whenever you need something. Hugging is common, and people will hug you if you ask for it.

There they are, Ţëêkm and Mnüp in front of the restaurant they wanted to go in.

"Let's go!", said Mnüp, excited.

They took a plate each and started filling it with delicious foods.

"I'm so hungry!", said Mnüp, ready to eat. "Me too!", replied Ţëêkm, smiling.

They started eating and the food was amazing, they were so happy but didn't fully understand their luck having been born in the Sunshine Land, because outside of it, Pan can be a really hostile place.

"I love you", said Mnüp, feeling happy and relaxed. "Me too! Let's be friends forever!", said Ţëêkm.

Mnüp and Ţëêkm were really happy, like everyone in the Sunshine Land. The recipe of a happy society is mutual kindness, because kindness makes people feel good and happy. But not everyone in Pan understands it, even though it is necessarily like that. Pan is everything you can think of. Thinking about a society where hugging is the default greeting? Pan has it. Thinking about dragons? Pan has them. Pan has everything in it, including the most of horrible, vile, messed-up things you can think of. The Sunshine Land is like a safe haven where everyone is happy and where natural disasters just don't happen. Just be happy and make other people happy, and most things will be fine, even in Gaia* [Gaia is real life Earth]. Gaia is a part of Pan, too! Mnüp doesn't really know about other realities, probably most people in the Sunshine Land don't. Ţëêkm kinda knows, but she doesn't think too much about it. The more you think about other people's suffering, the worse you feel. Ţëêkm just lives her life in the Sunshine Land and is happy.

In the same restaurant, though, there was a person who knew about how bad Pan can be, that person was Geļeņatuk, a 16 years old teenager guy who knew more about Pan than anyone else in the restaurant. Having been to Centralia, Geļeņatuk knows how hard life outside of the Sunshine Land can be, but still, he's proud of what he has done: he made sad people feel better, and he felt really happy because of that. Nobody can make the whole Pan feel better, but still, Geļeņatuk thought that one should do their best to improve things. He felt like he didn't belong to the Sunshine Land, because everyone was already happy, there's nothing left to improve. The Sunshine Land will never progress, because it has peaked already. Geļeņatuk was really happy, but deep inside, living in a constantly happy society felt weird. He felt like happiness was the norm, and didn't really feel it anymore.

"I'm leaving. Going to Centralia", said Geļeņatuk, really happy of going to a less happy place.

"Are you sure Ge~? Centralia is not as happy as here!", said Řřat, worried about him.

"I know, but feeling happy all the time... I mean, feeling happy has become normal for everyone of us, we aren't happy anymore, because in order to feel happy, you need to experience sadness. Just like in order to feel relief, you need to experience discomfort", explained Geļeņatuk.

"Please, be careful in there", warned Řřat.

"Sure!", said Geļeņatuk, hugging Řřat.

Geļeņatuk paid the waiter and left, to the multiport* [a multiport is like an airport, only that it brings you to different realities] he went.

He then went to a random place in Centralia, feeling happy of his decision of leaving the kingdom of happiness to improve the living conditions of less lucky places. He knew what he was leaving, but he didn't know what he was getting into: it was pure randomness.

"Hey Mnüp, what did you think about it? Do you think feeling happy all the time makes us less happy?", asked Ţëêkm.

"I'm not sure, I mean, I'm feeling happy. I don't think I need to be sad to be happy. Happiness can last forever if the environment is adequate and if you really want it", said Mnüp, proud of herself.

"Think about this", said Ţëêkm, "If you have sand in your shoes, you feel bad, when you don't have that sand anymore, you feel great! But what if you never had that sand? You feel neutral". Ţëêkm and Mnüp were thinking.

"But objectively, never having sand in your shoes is much better than costantly having it", explained Mnüp.

"You're right. Then what's the truth? Is the Sunshine Land really that better than the other realities?", asked Ţëêkm, rethorically.

"I know nothing about other realities, maybe there's a better one out there? But still, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else", said Mnüp, proud of being born in such a beautiful place.

"We're lucky, Mnüp! We could have been born in a sad place. We need to thank Pan for this! I love my life!", said Ţëêkm, grateful. Mnüp smiled.

"What do you know about other realities?", asked Mnüp, curious.

"I know we live in a reality called Pan, which includes everything you can think of and there is no reality outside of it. We live in a country called Sunshine Land, where everyone is happy and kind. Other realities are usually worse than this one, and I might hurt your feelings if I explained what happens there", said Ţëêkm, not wanting to explain further.

"What is Gaia? I have heard of it", asked Mnüp.

"Gaia is a developing reality. It's really getting better now. There are still bad things that happen there, such as people getting hated and/or killed just because they love someone of their same gender, or because they don't agree with their evil government. Some places are really bad, but still, it's getting better for them. There used to be much worse things in the past that now are luckily banned, and people are finally waking up and they understand kindness brightens up people's days. One day, Gaia will be as good as here. It's not that bad of a reality, though, and there are plenty of good people there. Life is getting happier and happier in Gaia, because Gaians are good people after all and there, good things will eventually prevail", explained Ţëêkm.

Mnüp smiled, she was happy that Gaia, at least, was getting better, just like infinite other realities.

"I want to visit Gaia when it will finally be a happy place. I sure will", said Mnüp, smiling hopefully.

"It will be a happy place soon. Bad things will stop in a few decades, trust me", said Ţëêkm, feeling sure and good.

"I'm so happy Ţëêkm! I feel like surrounded by a cloud of joy", said Mnüp, happy.

Will Gaia get better, though? Will people still get hated, imprisoned or killed if they love someone of their same gender of if they just want other Gaians to live a better life? That's up to Gaians. Nobody will come from the Sunshine Land to help Gaians live a happier life. Gaians must work hard themselves to improve the reality they live in, but Ţëêkm is sure they will!

"You know, Mnüp, there will be one day in Gaia, where rudeness will be considered rude", said Ţëêkm.

They both laughed hard at this sentence.

They paid the waiter and then left the restaurant, thanking everyone for their kindness. Mnüp then went to a library and asked for a book about Gaia, which she happily read.

She was shocked about the bad stuff that happens there and how many Gaians suffer because of other Gaians, but then she noticed that Gaia was indeed improving, and she fantasized about the future, when Gaia will finally be free from violence and hatred, which might happen much sooner than expected. She kept reading until the description of this year: 2023. So many things will happen in the future, and everyone in Gaia will be as happy as in the Sunshine Land, because Gaians are starting to understand the importance of kindness.

"(Will Gaia be free in 2050?)", thought Mnüp, full of love and hope in her soul. She smiled and went back home where her parents welcomed her back with a hug.

Then Mnüp explained to her parents how life was in Gaia and all the good things that happened to Gaians. She told them one day Gaia will be a perfect place to live in. A place full of love where everyone is happy and kind. A place where differences don't matter anymore, and everyone is free to run in the green grass under cute white clouds and a blue sky while smiling cheerfully. A place where you help those in need, and those in need get help. A place like the Sunshine Land. Her parents told her they would like to visit Gaia when it will finally be free from the bad things, and that in the meanwhile every Sunshinelander will enjoy the beauty of the Sunshine Land without worrying much about anything, because they should be grateful for what they have instead of worrying for what other people don't have. Pan will never be wholly good anyway.

But Gaians... one day they'll all be happy, one day...
